Johnson Comments on News of NCFC’s MLS Bid at November PD Lunch

Attendees at our November professional development lunch heard real-time reaction from Curt Johnson, president and general manager of the North Carolina Football Club (NCFC) and the North Carolina Courage, after the team learned earlier that day that the team did not make the initial selection of franchises being considered for expansion.

Johnson said he remains confident the team is well-positioned to bring a Major League Soccer franchise — the highest level of men’s professional soccer — to the state. He described how the team’s rebranding has grown its fan base and positioned the Triangle as a destination for world-class men’s and women’s soccer.

A full house heard Johnson discuss how the team developed its new logo and worked to ensure NCFC was regarded as North Carolina’s team. Johnson noted that NCFC meets the criteria MLS has laid out for awarding an expansion franchise: strong ownership; a growing market; plans for an urban stadium that offers the area additional entertainment options; and great community support. As usual, our presenter offered timely insights and managed a lively Q&A session. Thanks, Curt!
