As I begin my term as President of IABC’s NC Triangle Chapter, I can’t help but feel like a race horse ready for the gates to open. I have been privileged to serve on the Board for several years now, learning the ropes and getting to know our members. Now, with a strong group of volunteers in place to help lead the organization, I can’t wait for the year to kick off.
Over the summer, the Board met to talk about how we want to deliver even more value to our members. It comes down to three main areas:
- Strong programming. We have worked to identify speakers and topics based on your feedback to line up our presenters for the year. Many of these programs will take place at area companies, including SAS, IBM, Red Hat, RDU and Capstrat. We are even planning a day-long conference on April 9, 2015 at UNC’s Friday Center so that you can get all the benefits of a big conference right in your backyard. See the entire calendar on our future events page.
- Networking. With more than 14,000 global communicators in the IABC member database, there is no shortage of peers to call upon when you want to share best practices, ask for advice or just build your own person network. In addition, we have three Happy Hour events planned locally this year to give you a chance to meet people in person, starting with our first event on July 31 that we are co-hosting with NCPRSA.
- Access to resources at the international level. The IABC website provides its members with thousands of articles, peer-reviewed research and webinars to help you stay current on topics important for professional and personal growth. This year our chapter will promote more of these resources so that you can take advantage of all that IABC has to offer.
I want to thank our past president, David MacDonald, for leading our chapter for the past two years and raise a glass to the entire board as we embark on a new year. We hope to see a lot of new faces this year and plenty of familiar ones as well.
Here’s to a great year!
IABC NC Triangle President, 2014-15
